Safe Routes to School Program

Walking and bicycling to school also helps reduce air pollution and traffic congestion around schools and neighborhoods. Individual schools, school districts, local governments, and regional leaders all have a role to play in making it easier and safer for children to walk and bicycle to school.

Our Program includes:

  • Walk to School Encouragement Activities and events

  • Get your bike fixed and drop in to learn about active opportunities at our School Bike/Active Classroom Hubs

  • Walking/biking school busses to walk on designated routes to school!

  • High School Safe Routes Youth Advocate Program

  • Safe Routes to School Parent Leader Program

  • Road safety presentations and workshops

FOR PARENTS

Become a Parent School Bus walking Leader!

A walking school bus is a group of children walking to school with one or more adults. That may sound simple, and that is part of the appeal. It can be as informal as two families taking turns walking their children to school or as structured as a planned route with meeting points, a timetable and a schedule of trained volunteers.

FOR STUDENTS

Become a #FeelGood Youth Advocate!

Day One is recruiting students ages 12-20 to become Active Streets Youth Advocates- interns to
join our Active Streets team. Internships are available for both high school and college freshmen.
The start date will be December 5th. This will be a paid internship with a maximum of 5 hours
a week. Students will meet weekly on Thursdays from 4-5pm and attend relevant events and
meetings. For an application call or email:
